Image by Robert Irwin of First Day of Operations on the Northern Plains Railroad. On February 5, 1997, the Devils Lake Daily Journal carried this image of the North Dakota’s newest regional railroad, the Northern Plains Railroad in Fordville (N.D.). To open this granger line, the Northern Plains crew of Robin Omdahl and Mike Liden bucked snow ranging from two to twenty feet in depth, using a Russell snowplow, with motive power provided by four GP9's.
