HISTORICAL SKETCH
The North Dakota Writers’ Project began in 1935 and was sponsored by the Division of Women’s and Professional Projects, Works Progress Administration, and the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Many of the publications planned by the North Dakota Writers’ Project were never published. Survey work of the North Dakota Writers’ Project ended in 1942.
The Ethnic Group Files, Series 30559, were prepared to provide background information for the hard wheat study. The files consist of biographical sketches and reminiscences of immigrants in North Dakota, general information on ethnic groups, histories of ethnic settlements, bibliographies, newspaper clippings, survey instructions, and correspondence concerning collection of the data.
