Abstract: The Reports of County School Superintendents provided the Department of Public Instruction with statistics on school districts and individual schools, buildings and grounds, student enrollment and attendance, teacher experience and salary, books, and equipment.
Provenance: The North Dakota State Archives acquired this record series from the Department of Public Instruction May 4-6, 1977. This record series was processed and the inventory prepared by Bonnie C. Sheldon and Kari Rombs Kohlhoff, December 1987.

County Superintendent Reports consist of 139 bound volumes and one-quarter foot of county statistics. This record series provides data on school districts within counties; schools; departments within schools; school houses or buildings including one-room schools; schools in towns and in open country; health and community activities; transportation of pupils; pupils' studies; teachers' institutes; school libraries within districts; textbooks; blackboards; trees; fences and firebreaks; water; ventilation; consolidation; visits by patrons and supervisory personnel; enumeration; enrollment; enrollment in federal governmental Indian schools; attendance; school terms; number of students in each grade; tuition cost; lists of officers and teachers; teachers employed; teachers' positions, experience, and salaries; officers' salaries and expenses; warrants; bonds; costs per pupil; indebtedness; receipts; cash balances; taxes levied; valuation; sinking fund; general fund; building fund; private denominational and national schools/colleges and high and graded schools; academies and kindergartens not supported by public funds; independent and special school districts; teachers' certificates; county superintendent; and teachers' meetings. The county statistics provide data on type and size of districts; number and kind of schools; one-room schools; graded schools in open country and towns; transportation; visits; text books; libraries; equipment and community activities; health and sanitation; enrollment; enumeration; attendance; teachers' positions, experience, and salaries; bonds; indebtedness; sinking and interest fund; special reserve fund; building fund; recreation fund, receipts and expenditures of general fund; warrants; cost per pupil; balances; taxation; and value of school property.
