Abstract: Glass lantern slides depicting landscapes, birds, animals, flora and fauna, architecture, Indians of North America, and etchings, primarily in western North Dakota. The collection was processed by Loran D. Berg in May 2016. NOTE photographs 2016-P-019-00159 and 2016-P-019-00160 are restricted.
Provenance: The collection was donated to the State Historical Society of North Dakota by Kinley R. Slauter on behalf of the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation on May 12, 2016. How the slides came to the TRMF is unclear: the slides were part of the collection at the Gold Seal Company’s Museum of the Badlands in Medora (N.D.). That museum was founded in circa 1966 and welcomed visitors through the 2002 season. Harold Schafer, Founder of the Gold Seal Company, founded the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation in 1986 and passed the company’s Medora assets to the foundation at that time including the Museum of the Badlands and its collections.
Property Rights: The State Historical Society of North Dakota owns the property rights to this collection.
