Provenance: The collection was donated to the State Historical Society of North Dakota by Nancy Morris Nicholson, granddaughter of Vaughan and Gertrude Morris, on February 10, 2015.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Vaughan Godolphin Morris was born May 5, 1879 to Thomas and Mary Ann (Diggles) Morris in Watford, Lambton, Ontario, Canada. He graduated from the Detroit College of Medicine in 1905 and then homesteaded in the Schafer (McKenzie County, N.D.) area. Gertrude Scott Morris was born March 30, 1877 in Elk River (Minn.). She moved to North Dakota and taught school until she married Vaughan Morris. The couple had two children: Walter Vaughan and Lucille. Morris was the first doctor in McKenzie County (N.D.). The family lived in Schafer (N.D.), Watford City (N.D.), Tioga (N.D.) and Beach (N.D.). Vaughan named Watford (later named Watford City) after his home of Watford, Ontario. Vaughan Morris died April 18, 1940. Gertrude Morris died May 6, 1947.
