Abstract: Collection includes a scan of the booklet from the dedication of the Sorlie Memorial Bridge (Grand Forks, N.D.) and 103 digital photographs. The images in the collection include Governor Arthur Gustav Sorlie, his wife Grace, and children Arthur Jr., Ruth Glenn, and Evelyn, Garrison Dam construction and dedication ceremonies, aerial photographs of the Bismarck (N.D.) area, the North Dakota Capitol grounds, Bismarck (N.D.) airport, soap box derbies and an Elks Parade.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Arthur Gustav Sorlie was born near Albert Lea (Minn.) to Iver and Mary (Olson) Sorlie on April 26, 1874. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school and the Albert Lea Academy. Sorlie came to North Dakota January 1, 1894, and worked for a bank at Buxton (Traill County, N.D.) for three years. Later he operated a general store at Buxton and in 1899 became a traveling salesman for the St. Paul shoe firm. He opened a bread and cracker factory at Grand Forks in 1903. In 1907, he entered the fuel, feed and seed business in Grand Forks (N.D.) by establishing A. G. Sorlie and company. He later became president of the Sorlie motor company of Larimore (N.D.), the Sorlie-Webster company of Fisher (Minn.), the Jefferson Motor Company of Albert Lea (Minn.) , and the Jefferson Oil Company of Albert Lea (Minn.).He also became vice president of the Douglas State Bank (Douglas, N.D.), constructed and operated several gas stations, and acquired interests in a number of elevators.
A. G. Sorlie became a member of the Grand Forks city council, and was elected Governor in 1924 and in 1926. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers, the Knights of Pythias, the A. I. U.W., the Sons of Norway, the Kiwanis, and Commercial clubs and the Merchants Association of Grand Forks and was a lifelong member of the Norwegian Lutheran Church.
In 1900 Sorlie married Jennie Odegard. Jennie passed away after had three children: Arthur, Louise and Ruth. Arthur married Grace Hilleboe in 1919 at Grand Forks. Two children were born to them: Glenn and Evelyn.
