BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Vernon Lindgren
Funeral services were held for Vernon Lindgren, 72, on Monday, January 25, 1982 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kulm Baptist Church with Rev. David J.E. Olson officiating. Mr. Lindgren died suddenly Friday morning, January 22, 1982, at his home.
Vernon Lindgren was born on August 17, 1909, the son of Peter and Betsy (Erickson) Lindgren at Kulm. He attended school and farmed in Pomona View Township. During World War II he served his country as a member of the 5th Army in the European Theater. He returned to Kulm and married Esther Lundgren on June 23, 1950. They continued to make their home at Kulm. Mr. Lindgren was a member of the American Legion,Farmer's Union, and the credit Union.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Vivian, and one brother, Gunnar.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Esther; one son, Mark, Eugene, Oregon; and three brothers, Bert, Camas, WA, Manfred, Pine River, Mn., and Edwin, Kulm, ND. Burial will be in Swede Township Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bruce Lindgren, Emery Lindgren, Harvey
Lindgren, John Lundgren, Warren Gackle, and Fred Gackle.
Arrangements were by Nickisch Funeral Home, Kulm.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Vernon and Esther (Lundgren) Lindgren
Vernon, son of Betsy and Peter Lindgren, of Kulm served for three years in World War II. Most of the time was spent in North Africa and Italy. Vernon went into farming when he was discharged from the Army. Vernon's mother, Betsy, sister, Vivian, and brother, Gunnar, lived with him on the farm.
In 1950 Vernon married Esther Lundgren, daughter of Jenny and Signar Lundgren. Esther's brothers and sisters are: Mildred Anderson, Edwin, Evelyn, Caroline Lindgren, Rose Lindgren, all of Kulm; Robert (deceased); Clarence(deceased); and Erma Lindgren (deceased).
Esther and Vernon moved a houseto their farm so Vernon's family lived there until their deaths, Betsy in 1958, Vivian in 1971, and Gunnar in 1978. In 1952 Mark Signar was born to the Lindgrens. Mark graduated from Kulm High School and Bethel College. He married Carolyn Shodin,daughter of Rev. Ray and Marion Shodin of Eugene, OR. Mark and Carolyn spent five years on the farm and then due to the poor farm economy, decided to go west. They are living in Eugene, OR where they are both are employed.
Vernon passed away very suddenly in 1982. Esther and Vernon had spent a couple of winters in town and purchased the lots where Esther later built her new home in1983. Esther retired from 40 years of teaching in the Kulm School District in 1989. Although retired she is very busy with activities of the Kulm Baptist Church, coordinator for Stonecraft Bible Studies, substituting in various schools, and many other community activities and she also enjoys having people share her home.
