Frank L. Brandt, local German language newspaper publisher, died in a local hospital Monday evening after an illness of three weeks. He was one week short of being 77 years old.
Mr. Brandt, who was associated with his two sons in the Bismarck Printing Co., was born in Leipzig, Kingdom of Saxony, Germany, June 22, 1865. He was educated in Germany and came to the United States as a young man, learning the printer’s trade in Grand Island, Neb.

In 1889 Mr. Brandt and his family moved to Omaha, where he took a position with the newspaper of that city, later going to Yankton, S.D. and Rugby, N.D. to follow his profession. It was in Rugby that Der Staats Anzeiger was founded in 1906. In 1911 Mr. Brandt came to Bismarck to accept the position of secretary to the board of control of state institutions under the administration of John Burke and in 1912 the newspaper plant was moved from Rugby to Bismarck, the business calling for a better distribution point. Mr Brandt held the position of receiver of the United States land office under the administration of President Woodrow Wilson in 1914.
He leaves three children. They are Albert R. and Walter J. Brandt, who were associated in business with their father, and Mrs. John O. Lyngstad, all residing in Bismarck and all with him at the time of his death. He also leaves four grandchildren. Burial will be made at the Grand Island Cemetery beside the grave of his wife.
