Abstract: Records document the history and activities of the organization, and include correspondence, membership records, material from performances and activities, songbooks, published articles about the organization and their performances, photographs, and cassette tapes with performances by the Plainsmen.

Provenance: The El Zagal Plainsmen Records were donated to the State Historical Society of North Dakota by Janet Esser in December 2013. The 1950 roster was transferred  to the collection from the Ephemera collection in July 2018.

Property rights: The State Historical Society of North Dakota owns the property rights to the collection.

Copyrights: Copyrights to materials in this collection remain with the donor, publisher, author, or author's heirs.  Researchers should consult the 1976 Copyright Act, Public Law 94-553, Title 17, U.S. Code and an archivist at this repository if clarification of copyright requirements is needed.  Permission to use any radio or television broadcast portions of the collection must be sought from the creator.

HISTORICAL OR BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

The Bismarck-Mandan El Zagal Plainsmen organized in 1948. In addition to Shrine Ceremonials and fraternal appearances and their visits and contributions to the cause of crippled children, they have entertained a variety of audiences. Featured in conventions, civic and community affairs, old age homes, hospitals, churches and other public gatherings, they were also chosen to represent North Dakota at the New York World's Fair in 1964.
