Abstract: Papers consist of correspondence to and from Nelson when he was serving on the U.S.S. Alabama, registration certificate, program from the third anniversary of the U.S.S. Alabama, a photograph of Nelson in front of the U.S. Capitol, Hildor E. Nelson letterhead, a copy of Stars and Stripes, poetry, religious ephemera relating to the Church of the Nazarene, and a political candidacy card of Hans J. Nelson.

Provenance: The collection was donated by Mark E. Nelson, son of Hildor E. Nelson, on March 26, 2012.

Property Rights: The State Historical Society of North Dakota owns the property rights to this collection.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH


Hildor E. Nelson was born to Hans J. and Ella H. Nelson on the family farm north of Minot, ND, September 13, 1916. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, on the U.S.S. Alabama. Nelson died August 30, 2005 and is buried in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND.
