Most of the forms are printed and include: requisition requests, quarterly returns, receipts, reports, abstracts, statements, estimates of QM Stores, and vouchers for supplies, tobacco, clothing, and pay. There are also a few miscellaneous letters and brief biographical sketches. The collection is organized in alphabetical order by surnames of the men in the collection. It is not specified which company or companies the men represent.
Provenance: The State Historical Society of North Dakota acquired the Quartermaster’s collection from the South Dakota State Archives, who acquired the collection from Central Michigan University’s Clarke Historical Library.

Organizational History: The 6th United States Infantry traces its lineage back to 1812, when the Congress authorized a strengthening of the regular Army in preparation for the threatening conflict that became known as the War of 1812. During the 1870s the regiment saw duty on the frontier in Kansas, Colorado, the Dakotas, Iowa, Wyoming, Idaho and Utah.
