Abstract: Consists of photographs of the James M. and Elizabeth Barry farm family, Manvel (N.D.), their son Elmer E. Barry, Elmer's garage and shop in Pembina (N.D.), a July 4th parade in Pembina (N.D.) and Governor Walter Welford.
Provenance: The Pembina Museum was closed and under state law, the State Historical Society of North Dakota acquired this collection. Carol Huls, Curator of Collections of the Museum Division of the State Historical Society of North Dakota, brought the collection to the SHSND along with artifacts from the former Pembina Museum and other collections.
Property rights: The State Historical Society of North Dakota owns the property rights to the collection.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Elmer E. Barry was born in the Manvel area of Dakota Territory on August 7, 1886. He is the son of James M. and Elizabeth (McAdam) Barry. James came from White Lake, Ontario and Elizabeth from Packenham, Ontario. They were married in 1875, and in 1877 he came to Dakota Territory.
Elmer attended school and grew up in the old home at Manvel, where he farmed with his father. From 1909 to 1911 he served as clerk of School District #13 of Levant Township, He entered service in 1918 in World War 1.
On November 27, 1919, he married Matilda Moris of Pembina, a descendant of two prominent pioneer families of Pembina County. Elmer owned and operated a filling station and garage at Pembina. He served as Justice of the Peace and was United States Commissioner for thirty-two years and was always interested in community affairs. He and his wife were members of the Presbyterian Church. They had two daughters, Frances Zirko and Margaret Cummings.
