HISTORICAL SKETCH
The Commercial Club of Williston was founded on September 10, 1907, and the Williston Community Club was incorporated January 20, 1919. These were the predecessors of the Williston Chamber of Commerce, which filed for incorporation on February 25, 1939. The first full-time Secretary-Manager was C. R. Sparks who was appointed in September 1943. Frank Wenstrom was secretary of the Chamber during the 1950's.
The purpose of the organization was to encourage and promote the growth and prosperity of the city and trade area. The Chamber consists of business or professional men living or doing business in the community who believe that whatever is best for the community is best for business. Thus the Chamber sponsored or assisted in a variety of activities e.g. Four Dollar Day, rodeos, old fiddler contests, sports tournaments, flower shows, army shows, conventions, fairs, band days, business-education days, wheat shows, Krazy Daze, home shows, teachers breakfasts, homemakers days, and the restoration of Fort Buford. Committees of the Chamber of Commerce are: agriculture, aviation, legislative and national affairs, membership, merchants, irrigation, publicity, traffic and transportation, petroleum, finance, civic affairs, and industrial.
