Interview with Ben Marcovitz of Bismarck at the home of Alfred A. Thal July 20, 1972. Present: Alfred A. Thal and Liess Vantine. Marcovitz emigrated as a child along with his family from Romania and subsequently grew up in the Jewish agricultural settlement near Wing, ND

Interview with Joe Dokovna at his home in Los Angeles, CA December 20, 1972. Present Al Thal. Formerly of Mercer. Family were early settlers in Wing Colony. Father and mother born near Odessa, South Russia. Joe Dolovna born Russia 1903. Came to US with Mother in 1906. Father came in 1905. Joe Dokovna married Mabel Rigler. She was a sister-in-law to Al Thal.

Interview with Abraham Averbach at the home of Milton Stanley, Los Angeles, Ca December 27, 1972. Present: Al Thal. Formerly of Wishek and Garrison, father and mother born in Russia in early 1860. Father came to US in 1890. Abraham Averbach was born in 1882 in Russia. Lived in NYC. Came to North Dakota ca. 1903. Homesteaded three miles from Ashley in 1905. Lived there two years and then started a store in Ashley. He left the area in 1916. Abraham Auerbach-brother to Pauline Auerbach Greenberg.
Nalhan Auerbach-son of Israel Auerbach of Ashley. Israel Auerbach family homesteaded in the Ashley area.

Interview with Joseph Bender at his home in St. Louis Park, MN May 24, 1973. Present: Al Thal
Born in 1888 in Odessa, Russia. His father and mother came to the US in 1905. His father wanted to be a farmer. They came to Ashley ND. He had been a grain buyer. Joseph, his father, and sister homesteaded.
Cassette 6:
Interview with Joseph Miller at the Shalom Residence, a Jewish senior citizen’s home in St. Paul MN May 25, 1973. He was 86 years old. His father came to the US in 1907-1908. Joseph and his mother came to the US in 1911. He worked 5 years in NYC as a cigar maker and a year and a half in Pittsburg as a peddler. He went to Ashley, ND because his sister was there.

Born near Brest-Litvosh, Poland. His father was born there in 1872 and his mother in Warsaw in 1874. His father was a blacksmith and came to the US in 1900.
