Abstract: Records consist of minutes, minute books, rosters of charter members, resolutions, photographs, programs, histories, songs, financial records, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks documenting the association's pioneer members and historical events in Burleigh County, Teachers Registers (from Fort Rice that include attendance records, grades, records of library books and County Superintendent visits), and a magnetic audio reel of the Oahe Land Owners Association (Bismarck, ND) meeting regarding the Sibley Island Proposal (Corps of Engineers project).
To qualify for membership in the association, individuals had to either have been a resident of Dakota Territory (prior to October 1889) and have 25 years residence in Burleigh County; be a descendant of such qualified person; or must have married such qualified person or descendant thereof. The organization dissolved in 2003.
Provenance: The papers were donated to the State Historical Society of North Dakota by J. B. Belk in January 1944. Additional material was added to the collection by Emma Swenson in 1996 and by Kate Hausauer in 2010. MSS 20628 (Bismarck Pioneer List) was added to the collection in September 2013. In February 2016, Doris Landerholm donated a minute book from 1952-2003.
