Abstract: The album consists of pages of images of the Sakakawea Junior Girls Study Club at the U.S. Indian School (Bismarck, ND), the only Girls Study Club in the United States comprised of all Indian girls representing nine different tribes.
In appreciation of her work with North Dakota Indians, Emma Zuger (Mrs. Albert Zuger) was adopted into the Sioux tribe of Fort Yates (ND) and named "Tarca-Luta-Win" (Red Deer) on January 2, 1930. The ceremony was performed by Chief White Bear and Frank Zahn was the official interpreter.
Provenance: The collection was donated to the Museum Division of the State Historical Society of North Dakota by Ann Zuger Pearce and transferred to the State Archives on May 1, 1989.
