Provenance: The State Historical Society of North Dakota received this collection in June 1989 from Wilma Ruth Schneider Viseur, Sun City (Calif.). Originally it was accessioned as 89AV047.

Biographical Sketch:       Wilma Ruth Schneider Viseur 
    Wilma Ruth  Schneider was born on March 1, 1917 in Greenwood, Christian County Ill. to Adolph  Philip (1889-1951) and Elma Leonore Johnson (1892-1982) Schneider. They were  farmers on a general farm. Her older brother, Duane George Schneider died at  birth in 1915 and a second brother, Darrel Vance Schneider was born in 1920 and  died in 1922. Wilma moved to rural Bent County, Colo. in 1935, and Jordan  Valley, Malheur, Oregon in 1940 where she worked as a teacher at a public  school.  On June 8, 1957 she married  Woodrow C. Viseur (1913-2001) and they lived in Decatur, Ill. where he worked  as a social studies teacher for McArthur High School and she specialized in working  with partially seeing students at Washington Elementary School. She was also a  speaker at the 1958 Sight-Saving Conference in Philadelphia, Pa. on March 12,  1958. They retired and moved first in 1991 to Hemet, Calif. and later Sun City,  Calif. On February 6, 2001, Woodrow passed away and was buried in Rose Hills  Memorial Park Cemetery in Whittier, Calif. Wilma died on April 9, 2008 and is  buried with him there. 
Elma Lenore Johnson Schneider
    Elma Lenore  Johnson was born on March 29, 1892 in Greenwood, Ill. to George L. (1866-1896) and  Abigail “Abbie” E. Zinn (1868-1942). Her father George died in 1896 and her  mother Abbie married James McGinnis (1864-1952) on February 8, 1898 in Sangamon  Ill. The family moved to Morton County around 1910 where they farmed their own  land. Elma attended Valley City Normal School and obtained her teacher’s  certificate and taught at Pretty Rock (N.D.) in 1913. She married Adolph Philip  Schneider (1889-1951) on August 11, 1914 in Christian County, Ill. In 1920,  they worked a general farm in Greenwood, Ill. From 1926 to 1931 they lived in  San Diego, Calif. In 1935, they lived in Las Animas, Colo. working as farm  laborers and then around 1940 moved to Arcadia Or. working the farms there. Her  husband, Adolph died on December 4, 1951 and is buried in the Kettelkamp  Cemetery, Christian County, Ill. Elma lived near her daughter Wilma in Sun  City, Calif. until her death on November 3, 1982. She is buried with her  husband in the Kettelkamp Cemetery, Christian County, Ill.
