Biographical Sketch
Death late Monday night took one of Bismarck’s oldest pioneer residents, Alfred E. Strawn, for many years superintendent of the First National bank building here. He was 82 years old.
Mr. Strawn died at 11:55 p.m. Monday in a local hospital which he entered September 20. The body is at Webb Funeral Home.
Respected as an upright, prosperous citizen, Mr. Strawn was superintendent of the First National building continuously from the time of the great fire in 1898 until he retired about two years ago. For many years he lived in quarters in the building but had lived recently in the Bismarck hotel.
Little information on the aged man, who knew many of Bismarck’s foremost characters from territorial days up to the present, was immediately available. Friends said he came here in about 1883 and had lived here since. Almost all those years he was employed at the First National bank.

Alfred E. Strawn was born to Jeremiah (Jerre) and Elizabeth (French) Strawn in 1858 in Maryland. His siblings were Franklin, William, Laura, and Jacob according to the 1880 Maryland census.
