BISMARCK, ND—The public is invited to attend a free locally produced film. Conversations on the Bench, a Bruce Wendt Film Production hosted by English and humanities instructor Brian Palecek, will be Sunday, March 22, at 2 p.m. in the Russell Reid Auditorium at the North Dakota Heritage Center. Following the film will be a conversation with Wendt and Palecek.
Conversations on the Bench is a compilation of one-on-one conversations between Palecek and a community member from December 2010 and December 2013 on an isolated bench in Bismarck. Palecek engaged partners in conversations on the first day of a new season, a solstice, or equinox. The conversations document a variety of subjects and changes in the seasonal cycle.
Opening with The Solstice Song, an original composition by Kris Kitko of Bismarck, local conversants including Dr. Herb Wilson, Wakinyan Hardin, Jonathan Bry, Janelle Masters, Damir Bacanic, Jim Kambeitz, and Jessica Hegland discuss with Palecek personal and community events. Sponsors for this event include the State Historical Society of North Dakota, the North Dakota Humanities Council, and Cinema 100.
Conversations on the Bench is part of the Sensational Sundays series sponsored by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Sensational Sundays, free public programs, are a buffet for the mind often in partnership with organizational sponsors. They include lectures, concerts, movies, and tours delivering engaging, educational, historic, and cultural information.
