Political Background:
Kelly Armstrong took office as the 34th governor of North Dakota on Dec. 15, 2024, and brings a background in business, a love for the outdoors, and a passion for volunteering and public service to the Governor's Office. A lifelong North Dakotan, he grew up in Dickinson.
Armstrong served from 2019 to 2024 as the U.S. representative for North Dakota's at-large congressional district, advocating for energy independence, agricultural interests, and conservative fiscal policies. He was a member of the House Judiciary Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee. He also served from 2012 to 2019 in the North Dakota Senate representing District 36. He spearheaded legislation to reform DUI laws and pass a $2 billion statewide investment into our infrastructure. From 2015 to 2018, Armstrong served as chair of the North Dakota Republican Party.
Governor Armstrong earned his bachelor's degree and a law degree from the University of North Dakota. His legal background as an attorney has influenced his legislative priorities and contributions to legal and regulatory debates. He married his wife Kjersti in 2004, and they have two children, Anna and Eli.
