Unit 4: Set 4. Fort Berthold Indian Fair, 1911 - Activity 2

Introduction | Fair Report 1 | Fair Report 2 | Photographs | Activity 1 | Activity 2

Analyze the photographs that accompany the two Fort Berthold Fair reports. In order to make a thorough study of a photograph, use the following guidelines.

  1. Study the photograph carefully. Consider your overall impression of the photograph, then study the details.
  2. Mentally divide the photograph into four sections (quadrants). Study each quadrant to locate more details.
  3. List the people, objects, and activities in the photograph.
  4. If possible, find out who made the photo and when it was taken.
  5. List the ideas that you have learned from studying this photograph.

Compare the photos to the reports of the first fair in 1911. Do they support the report? Do you see things in the photos that do not support the report?
