Talk on Heirloom Seeds Coming Up at Former Governors’ Mansion

BISMARCK —Rob Hanna, interpreter with the Lewis & Clark Fort Mandan Foundation in Washburn, will present a “Heirloom Seeds of North Dakota” presentation on Thursday, March 6, at 7 p.m. at the Former Governors’ Mansion State Historic Site, 320 E. Ave. B in Bismarck. Hanna’s talk is free and open to the public.

“As the local food movement sweeps the country, North Dakota has some serious spotlight potential,” said Johnathan Campbell, site supervisor of the Former Governors’ Mansion. “North Dakota is a goldmine of heirloom seeds, thanks in part to the Mandans, the Hidatsas, and Bismarck's legendary Oscar H. Will Seed Company.”

Hanna’s talk will include storytelling, actual rare seeds, and historic photographs. Free samples of heirloom beans will be provided.

The Former Governors’ Mansion State Historic Site is open year-round. Winter hours, now in place through May 15, are the second Friday and Saturday of each month from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free. For more information call 701.328.9528 or email
