BISMARCK—A patriotic civil-war themed concert, Gettysburg: A Patriotic Salute, will be held by the West River Winds and assisted by a 200-member community chorus on Monday, July 1, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. This free concert commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg will take place at the North Dakota Heritage Center’s Badlands Plaza at the north entrance. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
The Gettysburg concert is directed by Ernest Borr of the West River Winds, with assistance from John Darling-associate director, and Bismarck choral directors Dr. Tom Porter and Vicki Boechler. Patriotic music will include Dixie, Battle Hymn of the Republic, America The Beautiful, The Stars and Stripes March, How the West Was One, Amazing Grace, and more.
Solemn Bugles, a commissioned work for this concert composed and directed by John Darling, will be featured.
The public is invited to join the community chorus. The first rehearsal for the chorus is scheduled for Sunday, June 30, at 7 p.m. at Mandan Middle School. For more information about the chorus, contact Dr. Tom Porter at firstname.lastname@example.org.
