BISMARCK – Media are invited to attend a special flag raising ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, to mark the occasion of the opening of the new front doors to the ND Heritage Center & State Museum and opening of the new parking lot as the state takes possession of the exterior area of the expansion project. As of Saturday, the parking lot will provide 118 new parking spaces for visitors and tour buses.
The flag raising ceremony will take place on the new Pembina River Plaza at the east entrance near the Northern Lights Atrium. Secretary of State Al Jaeger, representing the State of North Dakota and the 125th statehood anniversary committee, will raise the United States flag. Historical Board Secretary Peggy Puetz will represent the Historical Board and raise the North Dakota flag. State Historical Society of North Dakota Director Merlan Paaverud, representing the Historical Society, will raise the 125th North Dakota anniversary flag.
The ND Heritage Center & State Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with the opening of a special Under the Dakota Sky exhibit sponsored by the North Dakota Council on the Arts, the North Dakota Arts & Galleries Association, and Starion Financial.
