ABERCROMBIE – Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site near Fargo and Wahpeton will feature children’s games, period music, educational programs, and more on Father’s Day, Sunday June 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The programming is part of Civil War Sunday, a weekly summer program at Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site, June 1 through August 3 at 2 p.m. The site is managed and maintained by the State Historical Society of North Dakota.
Kite flying and historic games for children of all ages, as well as guided tours of the grounds will be available throughout the day. A history program will be held at 2 p.m. in the Interpretive Center, with period music provided by local volunteers, a Fort Abercrombie history presentation, a presentation detailing Minnesota soldiers involvement in the major battles of the Civil War, and an open forum to share research on soldiers who served at Fort Abercrombie.
From May 18 – August 14 specialty quilts from “Quilts by Barb” will be on exhibit. Barb Nicholson, Kindred, North Dakota is an award-winning, nationally-recognized quilter. A quilted vintage tablecloth exhibit by Nicholson will be on exhibit June 18 – June 29, and she will present a history of quilting at the Civil War Sunday history program on June 29.
Located south of Fargo on the banks of the Red River, Fort Abercrombie Historic Site is open daily 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from May 16 - September 15.
