The subject of the 2013 Photo Contest was theaters in North Dakota. These facilities were chosen because of the danger they face with the expensive transition to digital screening.
The Archeology and Historic Preservation Division held a photo contest in 2012 to gather images and information on grain elevators in North Dakota. Grain elevators were chosen as the subject for the contest because these buildings are consistently identified as representative of our agricultural history. Over 500 images were submitted for the contest.
The four categories and the winners of those categories are:
Each of the category winners will receive a one year membership to SHSND, a one year pass to all SHSND Historic Sites, a personalized tour of the SHSND collections or the State Historic Site of their choice, the photo will be published in Plains Talk Newsletter and on the SHSND website, and a copy of The American Grain Elevator donated by Linda Laird, author.
The Grand Prize Winner is Alan Whiteside “Pillsbury” and this photo will be featured on a poster about grain elevators in North Dakota and published by the SHSND in May 2013.

Honorable Mentions will receive a one year pass to all SHSND Historic Sites and the photos may be published in the Plains Talk Newsletter and on the SHSND website.
