Puppets in Main Gallery
Main Gallery
The Main Gallery in the Heritage Center traces millions of years of North Dakota history from dinosaurs to the Depression.
The Gallery is divided into five areas: Corridor of Time, First People, Era of Change, Settlement Era, and Birds of North Dakota.
USS ND Silver Service
Hall of Honors
Located on the lower level of the Heritage Center, the Hall of Honors displays photos and artifacts related to the USS North Dakota, including the magnificent silver service. Also on display, are objects that grateful French people sent to American on the French Gratitude Train after World War II.
Sakakawea Painting
Sperry Gallery
Located just outside the entrance to the State Archives and Historical Research Library Reading Room, the Heritage Center's Sperry Gallery features temporary exhibits. The current exhibit is Creating Sakakawea.
Dakota dino mummy
Dakota the Mummified Dinosaur
One of the rarest types of dinosaur fossils was found near Marmarth, North Dakota in 1999 – a mummified duck-billed dinosaur known as a hadrosaur. Portions of this “dinomummy” are on exhibit, revealing 67-million-year-old secrets about how dinosaurs looked and behaved. “Dakota” will remain at the Heritage Center at least until July 2015.
