Due to overwhelming response, the best dates to consider will be after April 2011.

North Dakota Homestead Simulation will be available through the State Historical Society of North Dakota (SHSND), Fall 2010 in OpenSim for fourth grade through High School classroom education.

SHSND has launched an innovative project in a virtual environment that serves to enhance curriculum and 21st century skills while providing a safe, student-friendly collaborative study of North Dakota history. Educators can teach the state’s history by utilizing a virtual world. Learn how students can live the life of early 19th-dentury homesteaders in the New West. Students access primary sources for researching their topic, then use avatars to select their homesteads, build homes, and plant and harvest crops in the simulation.

To apply, please register your class online and submit for available time, classroom preview, and student/teacher guides with passwords.
