Abstract:
Photographs of Hattie Heichel Ackerman, her family, friends, life on the ranch/farm in Sioux County, North Dakota (1917 and 1936) and life on the farm in Minnesota after they were forced to leave North Dakota in 1936.

Provenance:
 The State Historical Society acquired the collection from Martin Anderson on October 9, 2017. Anderson donated additional photographs in April 2018.

 The State Historical Society of North Dakota owns the property rights to this collection.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Hattie Heichel was born in May 1887 in Iowa. She married Ennis Ackerman on September 9, 1913. She and her husband farmed on his homestead in Sioux County (N.D.) until they were forced to relocate during the drought that affected North Dakota in the mid-1930s. They moved to Minnesota in 1936. Hattie and Ennis had four children. After their move, the farmhouse was relocated to Bismarck (N.D.). Hattie died in December 1975.
