Abstract: During the summer of 1998, State Historical Society staff, incollaboration with the North Dakota Local History Council, organized a team of volunteer “ambassadors” in every county and city to document the location, age and general condition of the state’s older church buildings. Since the project began, close to 100 volunteers contributed more that 1,300 hours and traveled 13,000 miles to photograph 1,200 of the state’s churches.
Provenance: It is not clear why the photographs in this collection were separated from the rest. The majority of the Picture North Dakota photographs are stored with the data sheets for each church, arranged by county in MSS 11137 Preservation North Dakota.
