BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Irene Louise Carlson was born on January 30, 1900 by Zumbro Falls (MN) to Charles and Francis (Perkins) Carlson.  She moved to Shields (ND) in a covered wagon, with her parents and sister Freda as a young child. Her mother Francis had been sent there to teach in a country school.

Irene graduated from the Wells County Common School in 1915 and from the St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck (ND) as a Registered Nurse 1922. She worked in hospitals in Mandan and Bismarck (ND), Florida (MN) and retired from nursing in Modesto (CA) in 1970.

She then moved to Minnesota to share a home with her sister, Freda (Carlson) Karlson, to the time of her death on May 9, 1986. Irene was a very devoted nurse and made it a lifetime career. Her final work before retiring was spent in specialized nursing care in the Burn Unit of the hospital in Modesto.
