Provenance: The State Historical Society borrowed and made copies of these images from Joe Lamb. Many of the images were used in the book, Centennial, 1883-1983, Michigan City.

Biographical Sketch

James Lamb (born 1828) and his wife Julia Fitzgerald Lamb had sixteen children. Three of their sons came early to Michigan (ND). Edward A. homesteaded the quarter section which was later platted and became Michigan and established an implement store there. James P. and John M. Lamb started a store in Harrisburg at Stump Lake, but moved the store in 1883 when the railroad bypassed Harrisburg and instead routed through Michigan.

Mr. Joe W. Lamb was born at Michigan North Dakota, June 30, 1901, the son of Joseph A. and Jennie Lamb. He grew up and was educated at Michigan. He attended St. John’s College at Collegeville, Minnesota. He married Emma Westensee January 29, 1927 at Minneapolis, MN. After their marriage they lived at Michigan. Mr. Lamb owned and operated the Joe Lamb Oil and Supply, which he started in 1934, later he also started the Kite Café in 1939. Mrs. Lamb passed away Dec. 1, 1983. Mr. Lamb retired in 1967 and spent his winters at Hot Springs, Ark. Mr. Lamb passed away Monday evening, May 25, 1987 at the Nelson County Community Hospital at McVille, ND at the age of 85 years 10 months and 25 days.
